The Lido Deck

The Lido Deck (deck 8) is one of the main places we hang out. It houses some of the major attractions of the ship.

All the way at the front of the ship is the gym, followed right behind it with the “spa” section. Nicoline is enthusiastic enough to actually use the gym; I only went in there out of curiosity and to take a photo.

Next is the main pool, which is not spoiled by screaming children or blaring music. There usually is plenty of shade to be found, either because of the retractable roof or along the sides, which are protected from the sun and the wind. Two hot tubs are included in this area as well.

There is a bar and (from eleven-thirty to five) a place called the Dive In with hamburgers, hot dogs and the like. Perfect for lunch. There is also the opportunity to play table tennis or sjoelen (called “Dutch Shuffleboard” in English).

Behind the main pool area comes the Lido restaurant, which is where buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. This is where we would eat most of the time, because it is so convenient to just get the things you feel like.

There is a bakery corner where there are krentenbollen (“currant buns”) for breakfast every morning, and at the other end of the Lido restaurant the Sweet Spot with cakes, cookies and ice cream.

At the stern is a smaller pool area, with two hot tubs and something like a wading pool in-between. This is more intended to be sun bathing. There is a New York Pizza and a bar here.
