Day 6: Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras

Mahogany Bay, Honduras.

Mahogany Bay is a spot on the island of Roatan off the coast of Honduras. It is our first “visit” to Honduras (still not sure if you can count his as an actual “visit”). After passing through the seemingly obligatory souvenir shop there is this big welcome sign, which invites Marching Monkey to pose.

The first thing we see when coming ashore is a “Nature Trail” which of course we have to try out. It is very short but well-maintained and yes, we do see some nature here .

The nature trail leads us to the beach, which looks beautiful and is full of people. Including little children building a sand castle in the shape of their cruise ship. It looks like many of the probably 2000+ passengers of this Carnival cruise liner are here at the beach.

We get to try out the sea, and Marching Monkey gets to try out a shark...

They call it the Magical Flying Chair and it is basically a ski lift, but obviously without any snow involved. It connects the beach to the shopping plaza, and offers some great views along the way.

The shopping plaza has another bunch of souvenir shops, and again there is no real town in sight. It looks like the only thing you can do here (other than buy souvenirs) is to go on pre-booked excursions. But it does have beautiful flowers.

And Marching Monkey enjoys the opportunity to climb in a real tropical tree!

Marching Monkey is happy to be climbing a real tropical tree.

Nicoline manages to find some gifts, after which we return to the ship and continue our leisurely life of eating, reading and lazying around.
