The Promenade Decks

There are three “promenade decks”: deck 5 is the Upper Promenade Deck, deck 4 is the Promenade Deck, and deck 3 is the Lower Promenade Deck. We start with the Upper Promenade Deck, deck 5, which is another deck where we spend a lot of our time.

At the bow of the ship it starts out with the upper part of the Main Stage (which starts at deck 4) where some of the major presentations, shows and movies are. The seats look extremely roomy and comfortable, but actually are a little bit less comfortable than they seem because they are pretty straight backed.

Behind the main state is the top part of the atrium (which extends all the way down to deck 3), with on the starboard side the Ocean Bar.

Next are the casino and a bar called the “Mix”.

The Mix bar is followed by the Explorers Lounge on one side, and on the other side behind the casino is what is officially called the Explorations Café but is really the library. The library actually has two areas, shelves filled with books, puzzles and games, and large tables suitable for laying out the jigsaw puzzles.

One of the jigsaw puzzles is really gigantic, we figured it must measure six by nine feet and who knows how many pieces. And I loved some of the artwork in the library.

All the way in the back of the Upper Promenade Deck is the formal Dining Room, which also spans two floors (decks 5 and 4).

Deck 4, the “Promenade Deck”, is a deck that kept confusing us. It doesn't go all the way through from front to back (at least, not for us guests), so you have to go a floor up or down to get from one end of the ship to the other.

The front is the bottom part of the Main Stage and the back is the bottom part of the Dining room. The interesting part of Deck 4 is between the forward and central elevators / stairways.

Here we find the middle part of the three-storey Atrium, with around it the Guest Services and an art gallery, as well as the desk where you can schedule excursions and tours.

Behind the Atrium are the “Wayang Theater”, where “America’s Test Kitchen” is shown as well as many of the movies and other entertainment. On the other side is the Pinnacle Grill, another specialty restaurant on the ship.

Deck 3 features a outside walk-around deck that people use for their exercises. This is also where the muster stations are with access to the life boats. At the stern of the ship are some deck chairs for staring out in the distance.

And then there is “Times Square”, the base of the Atrium. This is where the sculpture in the center of the atrium is anchored and it looks—different.
