Ybor City

Ybor City is a historic neighborhood in Tampa, originally founded in the 1880s by Vincente Martinez-Ybor and famous for its cigar factories.

The cigar production is now mostly for tourists: the neighborhood has re-invented itself as a tourist destination. Centered around Tampa’s 7th and 8th Avenue, it has lots of shops and restaurants.

Very noticeable are the free-ranging chickens all around the neighborhood. Just like we would see in Key West, this is one place where nobody asks why the chicking is crossing the road, everybody just accepts that they do.

One of the interesting things in Ybor City is the utility boxes on the sidewalk, which are decorated with different scenes.

In the middle is an entertainment complex with a movie theater and various restaurants. The Temco street car line, which is free and runs every twenty minutes, passes in front of the entertainment complex.
